Privacy policy
Gaffer XI is built to need as little of your data as possible. You can play the entire game without an account. This page explains what is and is not collected.
Last updated: October 2026.
Playing the game
Gaffer XI runs entirely in your browser. No account is required to play, and your game settings and progress are stored locally on your own device using your browser's local storage. We do not need or collect your name, address or any similar personal details to let you play.
The same game is also available as an app for iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). The apps add optional accounts, friends, in-app advertising and a one-time purchase; the sections marked "app" below describe those and apply to both apps unless a platform is named. Everything else on this page applies to the website and the apps.
Accounts (app)
In the app you can create an optional account. Depending on your device and app version you can sign in with Apple (iOS), with Google, or with your email address (sign-in by a one-time code; no password is stored). With Sign in with Apple we receive a random Apple user id and, if you share it, your email address (this can be an Apple relay address). With Sign in with Google we receive your Google account id, your email address and, as provided by Google, your name and profile picture link; the name and picture link are kept only with your sign-in record and are not shown to other players. With an account we store that email address, a random user id, the team name you choose, your finished runs (mode, result, line-up), your album, your friend connections (including who invited whom, for the friends pack), and your coins, achievements and level, so they sync across devices and can appear on leaderboards. Your team name, level, album score, Hall of Fame places and duel record are shown on your public profile card and to players you play or befriend. You can delete the account and all of this data at any time in the app via Profile → Settings → Delete account, or request deletion at gafferxi.app/delete. On iOS this also removes Gaffer XI from your Apple ID's "Sign in with Apple" list; if you signed in with Google you can also remove Gaffer XI from your Google Account under Security → Your connections to third-party apps & services.
Country (app)
To show a country flag next to Hall of Fame entries and duel opponents, the server reads the country from your IP address at the moment you submit a run or join a duel. Only the two-letter country code is kept; we do not store your IP address or any precise location.
Analytics
For anonymous, aggregated statistics we keep only visitor counts (via Vercel Analytics, which is cookieless) and a simple tally of how often a match is completed. We do not place cookies and do not build profiles for these statistics. They tell us roughly how many people use the game, not who they are. The app counts anonymous events (for example: app opened, a mode started, a run finished) together with a random install id that is created on your device and is never linked to your account, your name or your email address. We use these counts only to see how the game is used and to fix problems.
Hall of Fame
If you choose to submit a finished run to the public Hall of Fame, we store the details needed to display it on the leaderboard — for example the team name you entered, your line-up, the result and the mode. Submitting a run is optional and anonymous; please avoid entering personal information as your team name, since it is shown publicly.
Advertising
To keep Gaffer XI free we show advertising supplied by a third-party advertising network (currently Adsterra). That network and its partners may use cookies and device identifiers to select, deliver and measure the ads you are shown, which can include information about your visits to this and other websites. We do not share your team name, your Hall of Fame entries or your email address with them.
Ads are only shown outside of play — on the content pages, on the end card and in the Hall of Fame — never during a draft or a match.
You can limit this in your browser: most browsers let you block third-party cookies, and tracking protection or an ad blocker will stop these requests altogether. Blocking ads does not affect the game in any way.
Advertising in the app
The app shows ads through Google AdMob: a full-screen ad after some finished runs, and an optional rewarded video you can choose to watch for an in-game bonus. Ads are never shown during a draft or a match. AdMob and its partners may use your device's advertising identifier, your approximate location (derived from your IP address), information about your interaction with ads and diagnostic information to select, deliver and measure ads. On iOS, before the first ad the app asks, via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, whether we may use that identifier for personalised ads; if you decline, ads are non-personalised. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads or Settings → Privacy → Ads). In the EEA and UK a consent screen is shown first, and you can change your choice later via Profile → Settings → Manage ad privacy. Buying Gaffer XI Plus removes all ads. How Google uses advertising data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Purchases (app)
Gaffer XI Plus is a one-time purchase handled by Apple through the App Store (iOS) or by Google through Google Play (Android). We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to confirm that a purchase exists and to restore it on your other devices; for that it processes an anonymous app user id (or your account id when signed in) and the purchase receipt or purchase token. With an account, Plus bought on one platform is also active on the other. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Notifications (app)
Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your device and never leave it. If you enable push notifications, a device token issued by Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) is stored with your account so we can notify you about friend requests and friend activity; you can switch this off in Profile → Settings → Notifications or in your device's notification settings, which also removes the token.
App integrity (Android)
To keep leaderboards fair, the Android app asks Google Play Integrity to confirm that a request comes from the genuine, unmodified app installed from Google Play. Google returns a verdict about the app and device to our server; we use it only for that check. We do not store the verdict itself, only a mark on the submitted run that it passed, plus anonymous totals of how many checks passed or failed.
Fonts
Web fonts are loaded via Google Fonts so the game displays correctly. This involves a request to Google's servers to deliver the font files.
Contact form
If you contact us by email or through a contact form (in the game or on our contact page), we keep your message and, only if you choose to provide it, your email address, solely so we can read and answer your question.
Children
Gaffer XI is a general-audience football game and is not directed at young children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The apps are not part of Apple's Kids category or Google Play's Families programme and require no personal data to play.
